Catherine Tan is a PhD student and Lecturer in the Department of Geography at the University of Cambridge. She holds a BA in International Relations from Ateneo de Manila University, an MSc in International Political Economy and LLM coursework in International Law from the London School of Economics, and an MPhil in Anthropocene Studies from Cambridge. Her research focuses on techno-utopian projects and their sociolegal implications in the Anthropocene, funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
- Research: Investigates futuristic projects (space colonization, seasteads, cryptodemocracies) and their impact on international law and planetary governance
- Professional Experience: Former Senior Technical Aide to the Philippine Finance Minister, Climate Diplomat at UN COP26, and founder of The Climate Revamp Movement
- Teaching: Lectures on Techno-utopias in the MPhil Anthropocene Studies program and supervises undergraduate political geography modules
Her work bridges economic diplomacy, climate policy, and legal geographies, with recent missions to Tokyo, Beijing, Singapore, and Washington DC. She is a Royal Geographical Society Postgraduate Fellow and contributes to interdisciplinary climate governance initiatives.
