Alex Richards is Assistant Professor of Magazine, News and Digital Journalism at Syracuse University's Newhouse School. A data journalism specialist, he joined academia after roles at NerdWallet, Chicago Tribune, and Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE), where he trained journalists globally. His investigative work has exposed political corruption, fraudulent lending, and healthcare safety failures.
Richards teaches data-driven storytelling and public records research. Awarded the Goldsmith Prize and Taylor Award, his 2011 investigation was a Pulitzer finalist. He integrates industry experience into curriculum development for accountability journalism.
