معرفی
Dr. Alberto Rascon is an Associate Professor in the School of Molecular Sciences at Arizona State University. His research focuses on understanding the biological functions of mosquito proteases, particularly in Aedes aegypti, to develop novel vector control strategies and combat viral pathogens like dengue. He has held prior positions at San José State University and completed postdoctoral training at UCSF as an NIH IRACDA Scholar.
- Education:
- B.S. Chemistry, California State University, Bakersfield (2002)
- Ph.D. Biochemistry, University of Arizona (2010)
- IRACDA Postdoctoral Scholar, UCSF (2011–2013)
Research Interests: Dr. Rascon investigates proteases' roles in midgut bloodmeal digestion, salivary gland viral enhancement, and eggshell melanization. His lab bridges chemistry and mosquito biology, aiming to identify small-molecule inhibitors targeting mosquito-specific proteases. Key projects include characterizing 'orphan' midgut proteases and studying protease interactions with dengue virus.
Advising & Grants: He has coordinated NIH-funded programs (U*RISE, MARC, RISE) to support underrepresented minority students in biomedical sciences. His work aligns with reducing health disparities through mentorship and training initiatives.
Labs/Teams: The Rascón lab focuses on protein biochemistry, molecular biology, and vector biology, contributing to global health efforts against mosquito-borne diseases.
