Dr Alasdair Peterson is a Lecturer in Private Law at the Edinburgh Law School, where he joined in January 2022. He is also the Co-Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations and serves as the School Academic Misconduct Officer. He previously worked as a Lecturer in Private Law at the University of Glasgow from 2020 to 2022.
- Education: LLB (Hons) (2012), PhD (2017), Diploma in Professional Legal Practice (2017) - all from the University of Edinburgh
- Professional Qualifications: Solicitor and Notary Public in Scotland
His research focuses on Scots property law, particularly prescriptive servitudes and doctrinal concepts in property law. He has extended his work to comparative private law and the historical evolution of property systems. His doctoral thesis was published as Prescriptive Servitudes (2020), and he contributed to the Common Core of European Private Law project.
His recent articles explore topics like servitude classification in Scottish courts, title accretion in Scots law, and rectification of deeds. These works emphasize land use rights, comparative legal frameworks, and doctrinal evolution.

Prior to academia, he completed a traineeship in Edinburgh and practiced as a solicitor. He also delivers legal CPD sessions across Scotland and spent a year at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law in Hamburg.
