Andrew Steven is a Professor of Property Law at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh, where he also serves as Chair of Property Law. He previously served as Commissioner at the Scottish Law Commission (2011–2019), leading significant reforms in property law, including reports on moveable transactions, prescription, and heritable securities. His research focuses on property law, security rights, and legal reform, with notable contributions to Pledge and Lien (2008) and co-authored textbooks like Property, Trusts and Succession.
He teaches at the European Private Law Summer School in Salzburg and has held visiting positions at the University of Fribourg. His roles include Law School Library Convener, Honorary Secretary of the Edinburgh Student Law Review, and membership in the Stair Society. His work frequently addresses comparative law and legal harmonization across jurisdictions.
Recent publications include studies on leases, conveyancing, and Scots property law reforms. He actively collaborates with international institutions and has presented at conferences globally, emphasizing practical applications of legal theory.
