Akira Kawaguchi is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science at The City College of New York (CCNY), part of the Grove School of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Columbia University and has been a faculty member since 1997. His research focuses on database systems, distributed computing, wireless biometric systems, and maritime navigation technologies. He leads interdisciplinary projects involving civil engineering, biology, and public health.
- Current roles: Department Chair since 2013, Director of the Master's in Information Systems (MIS) program (2009–2013).
