Dr. Aiveen Gallagher-Schembri is a part-time Lecturer of Violin and General Music at James Madison University (JMU), where she also serves as a recipient of the 2024 Provost’s Award for Excellence in Part-Time Teaching. She holds a DMA from JMU and has received scholarships and training from prestigious institutions, including the Royal College of Music in London, ProQuartet-Centre Européen de Musique de Chambre in Paris, and Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
Her research interests encompass composition, classical performance, and music pedagogy. A multifaceted artist, she specializes in viola and violin performance, chamber music, and innovative teaching methodologies such as the 'A New American School of String Playing' (certified under Grammy winner Mark O’Connor). She actively promotes music as a tool for social inclusion through her work with programs like the Jose Depiro Educational Centre in the Philippines.
Gallagher-Schembri has performed globally at renowned venues like the Berliner Philharmonie, Musikverein Vienna, and Carnegie Hall. Her award-winning compositions, including the Trinity Caprices, have been showcased at events like the 2024 American Viola Society Festival. She collaborates with leading artists and orchestras, including the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and the London Film Orchestra. Her pedagogical contributions include masterclasses at NYU Steinhardt, University of Central Florida, and University of Illinois, alongside roles as a string adjudicator for the European String Teachers Association.
She is a member of the Alessandro Rolla String Quartet and co-leads Duo Schembri-Gallagher, recognized for their chamber music performances. Her educational outreach extends to pre-collegiate programs such as the West Virginia Youth Symphony and Malta Youth Orchestra, reflecting her commitment to youth development and cultural exchange.
