Agnes Klara Papp

Dr. Agnes Klara Papp is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Modern Hungarian Literature, Comparative Literature, and Literary Theory at Károli Gáspár University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She earned her PhD in Aesthetics from Eötvös Loránd University (2004) and completed habilitation at Pázmány Péter Catholic University (2018). Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor at Babes-Bolyai University and a Visiting Lecturer at Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

Her research explores modern Hungarian literature, magical realism, transborder Hungarian literature, and spatial poetics, with a focus on authors like Sándor Weöres and Iván Mándy. She investigates narrative identity, cultural memory, and Central European literary dialogues, often employing comparative and theoretical frameworks.

Her publications exhibit a strong emphasis on space and identity (e.g., rural/urban topoi), intertextuality (Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, Baudelaire), and narrative experimentation in 20th-21st century Hungarian prose. Recurrent themes include trauma, modernity, and the interplay of historical/cultural contexts in shaping literary form.

She leads the Required at Advanced Level research group and co-directs projects on Central European novels and children's literature. As Vice President of the Hungarian Literary History Society (2022–present), she promotes scholarly collaboration. She has also organized international conferences like Közép-Európa a komparatisztikában (2018).
