Török Lajos

Török Lajos is an Associate Professor at the Department of Old and Classical Hungarian Literature within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Károli Gáspár Reformed University. With a PhD in Literary History from Eötvös Loránd University (2005), he has established himself as a prominent scholar in Hungarian literary studies with particular expertise in 19th century literature and crime fiction history.

His research focuses on Hungarian literature and politics in the 19th century, cultural studies, history of modern Hungarian literature, narratology, and philology. Török has developed a specialized research trajectory in socialist-era crime fiction, examining how political contexts shaped literary production during the Kádár period. His publications demonstrate deep engagement with classical Hungarian authors including Jókai Mór, Petőfi Sándor, and Mikszáth Kálmán.

Török's scholarly output reveals consistent thematic patterns across his 15 most recent publications, with a strong emphasis on crime fiction history (particularly socialist-era narratives), literary adaptation (especially film adaptations of literary works), and 19th-century Hungarian literary traditions. His research demonstrates how political contexts influence literary production and how canonical works are reinterpreted across different historical periods.

Török actively contributes to research community building through his leadership in multiple research groups including the Hungarian Crime History Research Group (University of Debrecen, University of Szeged), the KRE BTTK Compulsory Advanced Level Research Group, and the KRE BTTK Contemporary Central European Novel Research Group. He has organized numerous conferences including the "Körkörös nyomok" series focusing on Hungarian crime fiction (2022-2024) and the "Vetésforgó" conference on classical Hungarian literature (2008).

His work extends beyond traditional academic boundaries through his involvement in editing projects for national cultural figures including Géza Voinovich's biography of János Arany and critical editions of Mór Jókai's works, demonstrating his commitment to preserving and interpreting Hungary's literary heritage.
