Tiborc Szabolcs Penzes is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Ancient and Classical Hungarian Literature within the Institute of Hungarian Linguistic, Literary and Cultural Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary. His academic work focuses on 17th century Reformed literature, church history, and puritanism in Hungary.
Dr. Penzes obtained his MA in Hungarian Linguistics and Literature and History from Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary in 2005. He completed his PhD in Literary and Cultural Studies at the University of Debrecen in 2012 with a dissertation titled "Some are running wild under the wings of Szikra...": Várad and Puritanism during the reign of George II Rákóczi.
Dr. Penzes specializes in 17th century Reformed literature, particularly examining religious and scientific reform movements, church and school history, and the works of key figures like Pál Medgyesi, Sámuel Köleséri, András Tarpai Szilágyi, and István Czeglédi. His research often explores the intersection of religious thought, literary expression, and historical context in early modern Hungary. He has made significant contributions to understanding puritanism in the Transylvanian context, especially during the rule of György Rákóczi II.
His scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on 17th century Hungarian religious literature, with particular attention to textual analysis, historical context, and the interplay between religious thought and literary expression.
