Lajos Török

Lajos Török (born 1970 in Hungary) is an Associate Professor at the Department of Old and Classical Hungarian Literature, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Károli Gáspár Reformed University. He earned his PhD in Literary History from Eötvös Loránd University in 2005 with a dissertation on 'Novel and history: the historical novel in the 19th century' and holds an MA in literary studies from the same university (1997).

His research focuses on Hungarian literature and politics in the 19th century, cultural studies, history of modern Hungarian literature, narratology, and philology, with special expertise in Hungarian crime fiction, particularly from the socialist era (Kádár period). He has participated in numerous research projects including the Hungarian Crime History Research Group, 'Possibilities for reinterpreting our national classics,' and the KRE BTTK Contemporary Central European Novel Research Group.

Török's scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on the intersection of literature, politics, and historical context, particularly examining how political regimes shape literary production and reception. His recent publications (2023-2025) continue this trajectory with particular attention to socialist-era crime fiction and adaptations of classic Hungarian literary works.
