Dr. Adèle Garnier holds dual academic appointments as Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University's Department of Modern History, Politics and International Relations (Australia) and Assistant Professor at Université Laval's Department of Geography (Canada) since July 2020. Her work bridges historical, political, and geographical perspectives on contemporary migration challenges.
Her research centers on refugee resettlement as a critical instrument of humanitarian governance, with expertise in UN Global Compact implementation, pandemic impacts on international mobility, and systemic challenges to asylum rights. Key contributions examine how the March 17, 2020 UNHCR resettlement suspension exposed vulnerabilities in refugee protection systems and how migration governance frameworks interact with state sovereignty.
