Adrian Daub is the J.E. Wallace Sterling Professor of the Humanities at Stanford University, holding dual appointments in German Studies and Comparative Literature. He directs the Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research and the Andrew W. Mellon Program for Postdoctoral Studies in the Humanities. Previously, he led the Program in Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies (FGSS) and the Department of German Studies.
His research explores 19th-century European culture, focusing on gender studies, musicology, and philosophical systems. Key works include analyses of German Idealism, Wagnerian opera, and the cultural significance of ballads. He bridges academic and popular discourse through writings on film, politics, and digital culture, including co-authoring The James Bond Songs: Pop Anthems of Late Capitalism.
Daub earned his Ph.D. (2008), M.A. (2004), and B.A. (2003) in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania and Swarthmore College. His interdisciplinary approach spans literature, music, visual arts, and media, with publications in top journals and media outlets like The Guardian and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
