Adele Atkinson is a Professor of Practice in Financial Literacy and Wellbeing at the University of Birmingham's Department of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology, part of the School of Social Policy and Society. She holds a PhD in Human Geography (2010) and a BSc in Economics and Accounting with Law (2000). Her role combines research, policy engagement, and teaching at the master's level.
Research Interests: Financial literacy, inclusion, and wellbeing; policy solutions for financial consumer protection; digital financial literacy; and household financial resilience. She focuses on bridging demand and supply sides of financial services through evidence-based approaches.
Key Projects:
- Co-leading a project on employment and financial inclusion for low-income groups with Washington University.
- Contributing to a Netspar-funded project on retirement financial vulnerability.
- Designing UN surveys on digital literacy in the Pacific, expanding to Africa and the Caribbean.
