Adam Frank, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. He specializes in neuromodulation therapies for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and leverages wearable devices and multi-modal data to improve clinical outcomes. His research integrates neuroimaging, ecological momentary assessments, and machine learning to advance OCD treatment and address healthcare disparities.
Dr. Frank completed his medical degree and PhD in neuroscience at UCLA, followed by psychiatry residency at UCSF with a focus on neuromodulation. He leads the Frank OCD Lab, established in 2021, which collaborates with engineering and clinical teams to develop innovative mental health solutions. His lab has affiliations with the Signal Analysis and Interpretation Lab (Viterbi School of Engineering) and the Laboratory of NeuroImaging.
Research interests include:
- Neuromodulation techniques (TMS/DBS) for OCD and depression
- Wearable technologies for mental health monitoring
- Biomarker discovery for personalized treatment
- Healthcare equity in neuromodulation access
Recent work focuses on DBS efficacy optimization through tractography and circadian rhythm biomarkers. He has received grants including the KL2 Mentored Career Development Award and Brain & Behavior Research Foundation (BBRF) Young Investigator Award.
Key Achievements:
- CTSA Poster Awardee (2023)
- APA Kempf Award (2023)
- Teacher of the Year (2024)
- Over 20 peer-reviewed publications
Current projects include a NIH-funded study on multimodal AI for mental state tracking and a qualitative study on patient perspectives of wearable technology. The lab actively mentors students across medical, engineering, and psychology disciplines.
