Suzanne N. Haber is a Professor at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry (SMD), holding joint appointments in Pharmacology and Physiology, Neuroscience, and Psychiatry. Her research focuses on the neural networks underlying incentive learning, decision-making, and action plans, particularly within the cortico-basal ganglia-thalamic system. She investigates disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), addiction, schizophrenia, and Parkinson's disease. Dr. Haber's work integrates anatomical studies with neuroimaging and deep brain stimulation (DBS) to understand circuit dysfunction and therapeutic mechanisms.
Education: Ph.D. in Neuro- & Bio-Behavioral Science from Stanford University (1978), postdoctoral training at MIT and the University of Minnesota. Notable awards include the Barbara Fish Memorial Award (2023), Max Cowan Lecture (2022), and Gold Medal from the Society of Biological Psychiatry (2020).
Research emphasizes cross-species neuroanatomy, tractography, and DBS targets. Her lab collaborates on projects like the Silvio Conte Center for Research in OCD. Over 175 publications and multiple book chapters highlight her contributions to basal ganglia circuitry and mental health.
Scientific awards include leadership roles in professional societies and prestigious grants like the NIMH Merit Award (1989-1997). Grants and collaborations span neuroimaging, DBS, and developmental neuroscience.
Labs/Teams: Haber Lab, Conte Center for Research in OCD, and interdisciplinary teams at URMC.
