McDaniel’s research and artistic practice focus on hybrid multicultural dance forms, blending Eastern and Western traditions to create “truly American” dance works. Her teaching emphasizes the cultural context and historical evolution of Bollywood and contemporary Indian dance, challenging students to see beyond surface aesthetics into deeper structural and narrative traditions.
McDaniel founded Blue13 Dance Company at age 20 after studying Kathak in India, pioneering the integration of classical Indian elements into modern American dance. The company has toured globally and premiered works at prestigious venues like the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, bridging Bollywood and Kathak traditions with contemporary innovation.
