Abigail Wincott is an Associate Professor in the School of Writing and Journalism at Falmouth University, specializing in audio journalism and immersive media. She holds a PhD from the University of Brighton and has over 20 years of experience in audio production, including roles at the BBC World Service and Radio 4. As a Leverhulme International Fellow, she collaborates with l'Université Paul-Valéry Montpellier and Radio France Internationale. Her research focuses on the intersection of new media technologies, audience engagement, and professional practices in audio storytelling.
Key roles include Co-Editor of RadioDoc Review, Chair of the MeCCSA Radio and Audio Studies Network, and organizer of the 2028 MeCCSA conference. She leads projects such as Spatial Audio Journalism and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion, funded by ERDF and Research England. Her teaching spans journalism theory, media practice, and audio production.
Research interests include immersive audio technologies (e.g., binaural, ambisonics), heritage documentation, and the ethical dimensions of listener experience. She has supervised numerous PhD students in areas like podcasting, spatial media, and cultural studies. Her work bridges academic research and industry applications, including workshops for programme makers and collaborations with sound engineers.
