Prof. Dr. Abdullah Gedikli is a Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Construction. He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from ITU and has extensive experience in academic roles, progressing from Assistant Professor (1997–2007) to Associate Professor (2008–2013) before becoming a full Professor in 2013. His research focuses on earthquake engineering, numerical modeling, and solid mechanics, with notable contributions to structural analysis, geotechnical systems, and masonry behavior.
- Education:
- PhD in Civil Engineering, Istanbul Technical University (1992–1996)
- MSc in Structural Engineering (Thesis), Istanbul Technical University (1987–1989)
- BSc in Civil Engineering, Mediterranean University (1981–1985)
His research interests span seismic vulnerability assessment of infrastructure, numerical simulations of masonry and pipeline systems, and experimental studies on erosion and sediment transport. Over 30 years, he has supervised 20+ theses, including works on seismic isolation, masonry wall behavior, and soil-structure interaction. His articles address critical civil engineering challenges such as earthquake-resistant design, fluid-structure interaction in storage tanks, and hydrological modeling.
Notably, his work combines theoretical modeling with experimental validation, contributing to both academic and practical solutions for infrastructure resilience. He actively teaches courses like statics and structural analysis, reflecting his commitment to both research and education.
