Aaron Palmer is a Professor of History at Wisconsin Lutheran College, teaching courses on American history, modern Europe, colonial Latin America, and specialized topics like the American Revolution and witchcraft in the Atlantic world. His research centers on the political history of the 18th-century British Empire, particularly South Carolina's elite governance structures.
Palmer authored A Rule of Law: Elite Political Authority and the Coming of the Revolution in the South Carolina Lowcountry, 1763-1776 (Brill, 2014), examining how planters and merchants maintained political control through colonial institutions. Current projects include studies of Charleston during British occupation (1780-1782) and royal governors in southern colonies.
His scholarly contributions include conference presentations at Harvard University, Missouri Valley History Conference, and Northern Great Plains History Conference, focusing on criminal justice, dueling culture, and imperial identity in colonial America.
