Joel Davis

Joel Davis is a Professor of Chemistry at Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC). He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from WLC and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Purdue University. His research interests include physical chemistry, interdisciplinary collaborations in forensic and biological studies, and innovative pedagogical methods like Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL). He teaches courses such as General Chemistry, Food and Cooking Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry.

Dr. Davis emphasizes active learning in the classroom, focusing on critical thinking and problem-solving skills. His research employs advanced analytical techniques like mass spectrometry, NMR, and spectroscopy. He collaborates with anthropology and biology departments on projects such as toxicological analysis of skeletal remains and hydrophobic hydration shell studies. He also actively contributes to the scholarship of teaching and learning, presenting at conferences like the National Conference to Advance POGIL Practice.

In service roles, he serves on WLC’s Faculty Senate, General Education Committee, and advises The Point of Grace. He is involved in community ministries and church activities. His teaching and research highlight a commitment to both scientific rigor and student engagement.
