Max Planck Institute for Neurobiology of Behavior – caesarAbout
Georg Keller is a Senior Group Leader at the Friedrich Miescher Institute for Biomedical Research (FMI) in Basel, Switzerland. His research focuses on understanding the neuronal mechanisms underlying conscious perception and psychiatric disorders, particularly exploring how antipsychotic and antidepressant medications affect cortical activity. He leads a laboratory investigating the circuit basis of perception and how these circuits dysregulate in disease.
Education: PhD (2009) from the Institute of Neuroinformatics, University of Zurich/ETH Zurich. Previous positions include Postdoctoral Fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology and Junior Group Leader at FMI (2012–2017).
Research interests include consciousness, psychiatric treatments, predictive processing, and cortical circuit dynamics. Notable awards include ERC Consolidator and Starting Grants, and the Human Frontier Science Program Career Development Award.
Key publications span topics like antipsychotic drug effects on cortical layers, prediction error signaling in the locus coeruleus, and molecularly targetable cell types in visual cortex. His team includes PhD students, postdocs, and technical associates, contributing to ongoing studies of neuronal circuits and psychiatric drug mechanisms.
Labs/Teams: Active in the FMI’s Neurobiology research group, collaborating with international partners. His work integrates experimental neuroscience and computational modeling to bridge gaps in understanding therapeutic drug actions.
