Éric Bellavance is a Part-time Lecturer in Theological Studies at Concordia University, specializing in the History and religions of the Ancient Near East, Hebrew Bible, and Postcolonial Studies. His work focuses on the Dead Sea Scrolls and identity formation during the Second Temple Period.
Education: PhD in Biblical Studies (2006), Université de Montréal; MA in Biblical Studies (1999), Université de Montréal; BA in History (1997), Université de Montréal; Postdoctoral Fellow (2007-2009) at McGill University.
His research examines Deutero-Isaiah, prophetic justice, and Qumran manuscripts. Current projects include translating and annotating the Great Isaiah Scroll (1QIs) for the Projet international de traduction française critique des commentaires bibliques des livres prophétiques et écrits de sagesse des Manuscrits de la mer morte.
Publications highlight trends in Biblical exegesis, ancient Near Eastern religions, and imperial propaganda (Assyrian to Daech). Key themes: imperialism, identity transformation, and theological responses to power dynamics.
