Éric Bellavance is a PartTime Lecturer at the Department of History and Institute of Religious Studies, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Université de Montréal, since 2010. A historian and biblical scholar with a Ph.D. (2007), he teaches courses on the Hebrew Bible, Ancient Near Eastern religions, biblical archaeology, and prophetic traditions. His work bridges historical-critical methods with postcolonial analysis, focusing on Second Temple Jewish identity and biblical creation narratives.
His research explores
- Postcolonial interpretations of the Hebrew Bible
- Prophetic critiques of imperialism
- Dead Sea Scrolls translation (Bibliothèque de Qumrân project)
- Identity construction in Ezra-Nehemiah
- Music's theological ambivalence in religious contexts
Recent publications include 2022 chapters on Qumrân manuscripts and 2018-2019 studies linking Assyrian/Daesh propaganda with biblical theology. He co-edits special volumes on music and religion, and has contributed to dictionaries and journals like Sciences religieuses/Religious Studies.
