Prof. Reinhard G. Kratz serves as Professor in the Faculty of Theology at Georg-August-University Göttingen, Germany, specializing in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible studies. He holds a Th.D. and Habilitation (venia legendi) from Zürich University (1990).
His research focuses on biblical criticism, ancient Israelite history, and Dead Sea Scrolls. Kratz examines textual composition, historical contexts, and religious practices of ancient Israel, with particular attention to prophetic literature and festival calendars in the Hebrew Bible.
His recent publications analyze Antiochus IV's persecution in Daniel and Deuteronomy's festival calendar, reflecting his expertise in Second Temple period history and biblical textual development. His work demonstrates consistent engagement with archaeological evidence and historical-critical methodology.

Kratz serves as Principal Investigator for the German-Israeli cooperation project Scripta Qumranica Electronica and directs two major long-term projects at the Göttingen Academy: the Editio critica maior of the Greek Psalter and Qumran Digital: Text and Lexicon.
His laboratory and research teams focus on digital humanities approaches to biblical texts, particularly through the Qumran Digital project which creates comprehensive textual and lexical resources for Dead Sea Scrolls research.
