Prof. Michael Segal is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Bible at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and serves as Editor of the Hebrew University Bible Project, a significant scholarly initiative focused on producing critical editions of biblical texts.

- Biblical redaction and textual history
- Ancient Jewish literature and its historical contexts
- Development of Jewish festivals and calendar systems
- Interpretation of apocalyptic literature
- Relationship between biblical texts and Hellenistic period history
Prof. Segal's publications reveal a consistent scholarly approach examining how biblical authors responded to contemporary political realities, particularly during the Antiochus IV persecutions (167-164 BCE). His work demonstrates how biblical texts were shaped by and responded to historical events, with special attention to chronological systems and festival development in ancient Judaism.
As Editor of the Hebrew University Bible Project, he contributes to one of the most authoritative critical editions of the Hebrew Bible, working with primary sources including the Dead Sea Scrolls.
