Jennifer Wright Knust is a Professor of Religious Studies at Duke University, affiliated with Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. She holds leadership roles including Director of the Center for Late Ancient Studies and Director of Undergraduate Studies for Religious Studies. Her expertise spans early Christian history, ancient Mediterranean religions, and biblical reception. Knust earned her Ph.D. from Columbia University (2001) after earlier degrees in theology and science. Her research focuses on early Christian texts, manuscript culture, and the intersection of biblical studies with social history. Notable works include To Cast the First Stone (2018) and Unprotected Texts (2011). She has held prestigious fellowships from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Radcliffe Institute, and ACLS. Teaching includes courses on scripture in Judaism/Christianity/Islam, material culture (e.g., 'Loot: Who Owns the Past?'), and late antique death rituals. Her service includes curating the 'Manuscript Migration' exhibit and organizing workshops on cultural heritage restitution.
