Romain Graziani is a Professor of Chinese studies at the École normale supérieure de Lyon, part of the Arts and Humanities Faculty. He holds a doctorate in the genesis of meditative practices in ancient Taoism and has been a Junior Member of the Institut Universitaire de France (2009–2014). His research focuses on classical Chinese texts, including Taoist philosophy, political thought, and the interplay between body, spirit, and governance in ancient China.
Education: Studied philosophy at the Sorbonne, completed postgraduate work in analytical philosophy, and pursued advanced Chinese studies at the University of Cambridge and Harvard University. His academic career includes teaching roles at Université Paris-Diderot, Sciences-Po Paris, and the University of Geneva.
Research Interests: Taoist thinkers, political domination in ancient texts, body manipulation in Chinese society, self-writing in medieval China, economic speculation in the 4th century BCE, and comparative literary traditions. Current projects include a monograph on Han Fei-Tseu and translations of contemporary Chinese poetry.
Awards: Louis Forest Award (2001), Centre National du Livre Grant (2001), and IUF Junior Membership (2009–2014). His publications include Les corps dans le taoïsme ancien (2011) and Une voix pour l’évasion (2015).
