Dr. Jin Lee is a Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University's School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry, within the Faculty of Humanities. He holds multiple research affiliations including the Influencer Ethnography Research Lab (IERLab), the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Digital Child, and is a founding member of the TikTok Cultures Research Network. His work focuses on digital intimacies, marginalized communities' media practices, and social media pop cultures. His research explores how marginalized groups navigate digital spaces to assert agency, with particular attention to identity politics, gender/sexuality dynamics, and digital activism. He has conducted extensive studies on South Korean media ecosystems, including analyses of YouTube influencers, K-pop idol cultures, and TikTok's global expansion. His work bridges academic rigor with public engagement, appearing in both scholarly journals and popular media outlets. Key contributions include co-editing special issues on TikTok cultures, exploring social justice through platform-based activism, and examining the intersection of child stardom and digital media. Lee's methodologies emphasize ethnographic approaches to digital spaces, revealing how cultural artifacts and online interactions shape contemporary media landscapes. He is affiliated with the Korea Research Centre of Western Australia and has been recognized for his interdisciplinary approach to media studies. His current projects investigate cute activism on social media, the role of influencers in nationalist discourses, and children's digital cultures across the Asia Pacific region.
