Hadeer Omar is an Egyptian new media artist and Assistant Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar). She holds an MFA and BFA from VCUarts Qatar, specializing in design and graphic design. Her work explores cultural identity, memory, and self through immersive XR media, photography, and performance art. Omar’s research often intersects technology and socio-cultural narratives, particularly in the MENA region. Affiliations include: Assistant Professor, Art Foundation Department, VCUarts Qatar Former Artist-in-Residence at Doha Fire Station (2019-2021) Co-chair of Tasmeem Doha Art & Design Conference (2019) Research interests focus on: Immersive technologies (XR, 360 film) Audiovisual performances Cultural heritage activation Qatari-Egyptian cross-cultural projects Notable achievements include: Creative Director for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 music videos "Light the Sky" and "Ezz Alarab" Honorary Mention at STARTS Prize (2017) for the '3arabizi keyboard' project Featured in global festivals including Shubbak Festival (UK), Facade Video Festival (Bulgaria), and Ajyal Youth Film Festival (Qatar) Teaching philosophy emphasizes empowering students to explore emerging technologies in art and design through courses like Time-Based Media and Storytelling.
