James Bisbee is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Faculty Affiliate in the Data Science Institute at Vanderbilt University. His research focuses on how public opinion and behavior are shaped by information exposure, leveraging empirical methods to analyze topics like globalization, social media impact, and economic evaluations. Previously, he held postdoctoral positions at NYU’s Center for Social Media and Politics and Princeton’s Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance.
Education: Ph.D. in Political Science (NYU, 2019), MA in International Economics (Johns Hopkins SAIS, 2013), BA in Economics and Political Science (Trinity College, 2005). Awards include the Global Research Initiatives Fellowship and NYU Bradley Fellowship.
Research interests span computational social science, political behavior, and globalization economics. Notable work includes studies on partisan bias in survey responses, YouTube’s role in election legitimacy debates, and methodological innovations like BARP (Bayesian Additive Regression Trees for poststratification). He teaches courses in statistics, data science, and international political economy.
His publications appear in top journals such as the American Political Science Review and American Journal of Political Science. Ongoing projects examine algorithmic content recommendations, immigration policy anticipation, and climate change communication.
