Dr. Jamie Mahoney is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Northumbria University, affiliated with the Northumbria Social Computing (NorSC) research group. His work focuses on the societal role of social media, behavioral analysis at individual and group levels, and ethical research practices. He holds a PhD in Computer Science (2021) and a MA (Hons) in Computing (2011). Research Interests: Jamie’s research examines how social media shapes societal narratives, particularly in migration contexts, and explores ethical challenges in data collection and analysis. His work bridges technical analysis with social sciences, addressing topics like loneliness disclosures, political self-expression on platforms like Instagram, and retail customer interactions. Publications: Jamie has authored influential papers on migration ethics, social media analytics in retail, and digital identity formation. Recent work includes studies on EU migration perceptions and the ethical implications of social media data use in migration studies. Affiliations: Jamie contributes to interdisciplinary research through NorSC, collaborating with industry partners on social media analysis for retail and fashion sectors. He previously worked on the Horizon 2020 PERCEPTIONS project analyzing migration narratives.
