James B. Bliska is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and Distinguished Professor serving as Senior Lead Faculty Member of the Dartmouth Personalized Treatments for Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Cluster. He holds a BS in Bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1983) and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of California-Berkeley (1988). His research focuses on bacterial effectors' interactions with host leukocytes, particularly in pathogenesis and immune defense mechanisms. Key areas include Yersinia, Pseudomonas, and Burkholderia pathogenesis, inflammasome regulation, and Cystic Fibrosis-related lung infections. Dr. Bliska's leadership in the CF Cluster aims to advance translational research and training in CF and lung diseases. He has mentored 15 graduate students and 7 postdoctoral fellows, emphasizing diversity in STEM. His lab explores type III and VI secretion systems, effector-triggered immunity, and synthetic immunology approaches to combat lung infections.
