Dr. Asma Al-Hawi is a Research Fellow at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) Cyprus. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics and Language Acquisition from UCLan (2020) and an MA in Linguistics from the University of Jordan (2009). Her research focuses on second/third language acquisition, pragmatics, semantics, and educational psychology, particularly examining English determiner acquisition among Palestinian/Jordanian and Cypriot-Greek speakers. Her work bridges theoretical linguistics with applied educational practices. Publications : Her recent work includes studies on article usage in cross-linguistic contexts and the pragmatic functions of religious expressions in Arabic. Key outlets include the Journal of the European Second Language Association and Journal of Second Language Teaching and Research . Professional Roles : She has taught at Unicaf University (2020–2021), the University of Jordan (2015–2016), and served as an administrator at UNRWA (2001–2006), where she contributed to curriculum development and teacher training. Grants & Collaborations : Active in international research networks, she has presented at conferences such as EuroSLA and the International Symposium on Theoretical and Applied Linguistics (ISTAL).
