Nadia Barrella is an Associate Professor of Museology at the Dipartimento di Lettere e Beni culturali (DILBEC) of the Seconda Università di Napoli. She holds academic roles in multiple institutions including the Suor Orsola Benincasa University and Federico II University of Naples, teaching museology in specialization schools for Art History, Architectural Heritage, and Cultural Heritage. Her research focuses on 19th-20th century monument preservation, museums as historical laboratories, and institutional development of cultural institutes. She chairs the Undergraduate Program in Conservation at DILBEC and serves on doctoral committees. Her work includes projects like the 'MUSA' Center for University Museums, ICOM thematic committees on museum professions, and regional cultural policies. She contributed to Campania's Musei di Interesse Locale law (LR 12/2005) as a consultant. Research themes include post-unitary heritage protection, museum historiography, and southern Italy's museum system. Over 40 publications include books on museum history and heritage management, such as La tutela dei monumenti nella Napoli postunitaria (1996) and Musei da svelare (2011). Her articles explore topics like museum post-war design, industrial heritage valorization, and digital museology. She participates in international research networks and has led projects on cultural cataloging and georeferencing. Current interests include global environmental history and mobility studies through the HistoryLab research group.
