Andrea Caligiuri is a Tenured Professor of International Law at the Department of Law of the University of Macerata, Italy. His research focuses on maritime law, environmental law, international disputes, and human rights. He holds a National Scientific Qualification as a Full Professor in International Law (valid until 2030).
Current roles include:
- Member of the Doctoral College 'Diritto e innovazione'
- Representative of the University in the RUS Climate Change Working Group
- Scientific Responsible of the Macerata Unit of the Italian Centre for the Law of the Sea (ICLOS)
- Coordinator of the Adriatic-Mediterranean Research Center (CiRAM)
- Leader of the 'Affari marittimi e Diritto del mare' group at the China Center
Research interests span maritime boundary delimitation, climate change legal impacts, corporate liability for international crimes, and the Law of the Sea's evolving frameworks. He actively contributes to international legal discourse through publications in journals like Italian Yearbook of International Law and volumes on maritime governance.
Recent work addresses legal challenges posed by sea-level rise, environmental migrants, and the BBNJ Agreement. He has curated edited volumes on maritime silk roads and legal technology's role in maritime governance.
