Karine Basset is a Lecturer in Contemporary History and researcher at LARHRA UMR CNRS 5190, affiliated with the Institut d'urbanisme de Grenoble. Her work focuses on territorial production in contemporary rural spaces (19th-21st centuries), particularly processes linking natural and cultural patrimonialization. She coordinates interdisciplinary research on mountain territories' labelling processes under the ITEM Labex program.
Her publications include studies on Pierre Martel's territorial invention (2009) and the Cévennes National Park's history (2010). She collaborates with geographers, sociologists, and anthropologists, advancing critical analyses of heritage and territorial construction.
Basset participates in global heritage debates, addressing how heritage shapes social and political dynamics. Her current projects explore mountain regions' identity through labelling strategies and environmental heritage conflicts.
