Prof. Jochen Monstadt is a Professor of Governance of Urban Dynamics and Transitions at Utrecht University's Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning (Faculty of Geosciences). His work focuses on urban sustainability, infrastructural transformations, and governance in both Global North and South contexts. He has held academic roles at institutions like TU Darmstadt and served as visiting professor at Université Gustave Eiffel. Monstadt leads interdisciplinary projects funded by NWO, DFG, and EU, including the 'Transforming Infrastructures for Sustainable Cities' hub (2018–2022) and collaborations in East/South Africa. His research explores critical infrastructures, smart cities, and postcolonial urban dynamics.
