Hans Liwång is a Professor in Systems Science for Defence and Security at the Swedish Defence University and a part-time Researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology's Centre for Naval Architecture. He holds a Ph.D. in Shipping and Marine Technology from Chalmers University of Technology and an M.Sc. in Naval Architecture from KTH. His research focuses on risk management, maritime safety/ security, infrastructure resilience, and military systems integration. He has led projects like NATO's HEIST initiative and co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed articles. Liwång advises on naval technology and frequently appears in media, addressing topics like Nord Stream attacks and drone warfare. He also runs LNAK AB, providing technical consultancy in risk analysis and maritime engineering.
Research interests include hybrid space/submarine architecture, cyber-physical systems security, and societal resilience. His work bridges academia and practice through collaborations with NATO, space firms, and government agencies. Notable contributions include frameworks for autonomous naval systems and energy-security linkages in national defence.
