Jakob Kuttenkeuler is a Professor at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, affiliated with the School of Aerospace, Moveability and Naval Architecture and the Department of Naval Architecture. He leads the Maritime Robotics group within KTH's Centre of Naval Architecture. His research focuses on autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), hydrodynamic resonance mitigation in ships, route optimization using ensemble forecasts, and the development of advanced control systems for hydrofoiling craft. He contributes to the Oceanbird project, aiming to revolutionize sustainable cargo shipping through wind propulsion, and oversees the LoLo AUV platform for environmental and engineering applications.
His teaching roles include courses such as Advanced Topics in Naval Architecture, Degree Projects, and Sailing for Performance. Kuttenkeuler’s work integrates robotics, aerodynamics, and environmental engineering, with notable projects like the Foilsim flight dynamics simulator and the E-foiling technology for unmanned systems. His research often emphasizes collaboration with industry partners like Wallenius Marine and SSPA.
Key innovations include the LoLo AUV, designed for flexible payload integration and robust operations, and the development of control systems for hydrofoiling vessels. His projects address challenges in maritime sustainability, autonomous systems, and precision engineering.
