Emmi Harjuniemi is a University Teacher and Doctoral Researcher at the University of Lapland's Faculty of Art and Design, affiliated with the Lapland User Experience Design research group and the Discipline-specific doctoral programme. She holds roles in academic teaching, research, and innovation, including project management in startup services (LUX). Her primary affiliations include the University of Lapland since 2010 and prior roles at L-Fashion Group and Rovaniemi city swimming services. Her research focuses on wearable technologies, electronic textiles, and tangible user interfaces, with an emphasis on design education and practical applications. Key projects include ArcticShell (2014–2019), exploring Arctic smart design, and the Lapland Startup Incubator (2024–2026), fostering regional entrepreneurship. She has also contributed to initiatives like AMOK (2014), advancing Arctic design expertise. Her work bridges technology and art, highlighted by awards such as the Best Demo Award at Pervasive Displays 2019 for innovations in electrochromic displays. She actively participates in international conferences, workshops, and media engagements, emphasizing design education and professional branding. Harjuniemi’s projects have received grants from the European Regional Development Fund and Social Fund, focusing on tech-education integration and Arctic innovation. Her leadership extends to organizing workshops on e-textiles and curating exhibitions showcasing interactive textile designs.
