Professor Bharat Gwalani is an Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at North Carolina State University's College of Engineering. He holds a B.E. from National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (2010) and a Ph.D. from University of North Texas (2017), both in Materials Science. Prior to joining NC State in 2022, he served as a senior materials scientist at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (2019–2022). His research focuses on material vulnerabilities under extreme environments, deformation processing, and advanced materials development. Education: Bachelor of Engineering in Materials Science, National Institute of Technology, Jaipur (2010) Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, University of North Texas (2017) Research Interests: Dr. Gwalani investigates microstructural dynamics, phase transformation pathways, and material behavior under extreme conditions. His lab employs advanced techniques such as atom probe tomography, in situ TEM, and high-energy X-ray analysis. Key areas include supercapacitor materials, corrosion-resistant alloys, and shear deformation processing for high-performance composites. Publications: His work spans energy storage systems, alloy oxidation mechanisms, and nanostructured materials. Recent studies address challenges in solid-state batteries, high-entropy alloys, and cold-sprayed coatings. Labs/Teams: Gwalani’s lab actively recruits Ph.D. students with backgrounds in Physics, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering to advance multifunctional material design and processing innovations.
