Margaretha Järvinen is a Professor at the Department of Sociology, University of Copenhagen. She holds a dual appointment with VIVE, Denmark's National Centre for Social Research. Her research focuses on academic careers, social problems, marginalized groups, sociological theory, and qualitative methods. She has held leadership roles including Deputy Head of Department (2016-2020) and led multiple research projects on youth, drugs, and alcohol funded by institutions like the Rockwool Foundation and Trygfonden. Education: Doctor in political science (pol.dr.) from Åbo Akademi University, Finland, and a PhD (politics licentiate) in Finland. Research Interests: Her work examines institutional identities, symbolic interactionism, and vulnerable populations. Recent studies include the impact of performance metrics in academia, gendered service work, and narratives among marginalized groups. She co-authored the influential book Qualitative Analysis. Eight Approaches for the Social Sciences (SAGE, 2020). Key Contributions: Järvinen has published over 195 research outputs. Her recent work critiques academic gaming practices and explores gender dynamics in academia. She leads interdisciplinary research teams on welfare inequality and mobility.
