Stephen Mooney is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and Deputy Associate Head for Education in the School of Arts, Humanities and Creative Industries at the University of Surrey. He holds a BSc (Trinity College Dublin), BA (Birkbeck), and PhD (Birkbeck). His research focuses on contemporary poetry, avant-garde film, American literature, temporality, performance, and intersections of gaming with poetics. He teaches modules such as 'Writing Gaming,' 'Beat Writing,' and '21st Century Literature.' Mooney’s research includes projects like 'Trauma-informed Gaming' with Silver Script Games, exploring ethical representation of trauma in interactive narratives. He supervises PhD projects on contemporary poetry, intermedial textualities, and experimental literature. His publications span journals and edited volumes, analyzing works by figures like William Rowe, Stan Brakhage, and MJ Weller. Teaching responsibilities include creative writing theory, poetics, and English literature modules. He actively engages with experimental forms across media, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to literary studies.
