Benjamin Ralston is an Assistant Professor at the University of Saskatchewan's College of Law, joining as tenure-track faculty in 2023. He holds a BA (2007), JD (2010) from the University of British Columbia, and an LLM (2014) from the University of Otago. His research focuses on Indigenous rights, environmental law, sentencing law, and natural resource law. He is completing a PhD investigating Indigenous rights and environmental assessment practices in Canada. Professionally, Ralston has taught in the Nunavut Law Program, the Kanawayihetaytan Askiy Program, and the School of Environment and Sustainability. His legal practice experience includes representing Indigenous clients in high-profile cases like the Northern Gateway Pipeline review and the Coastal GasLink Pipeline injunctions. He is also actively involved in the Indigenous Law Centre, contributing to research and publications. His publications include guides on Gladue sentencing principles, analyses of Indigenous legal pluralism, and studies on submerged land rights. Ralston advocates for systemic reforms in criminal justice and environmental governance, emphasizing Indigenous legal frameworks. Outside academia, he is a licensed attorney in Saskatchewan and British Columbia, and a dedicated family man. His work bridges legal scholarship, policy, and community engagement in Indigenous and environmental law.
