Janice A. Schriefer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and Public Health Sciences at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She serves as Director of Collaborative Partnerships for Quality and Safety at UR Medicine Golisano Children's Hospital and Tutor in the Mastering Medical Information course for 1st-year medical students. Dr.P.H., University of Michigan, Public Health MSN, University of Vermont, Nursing MBA, University of Vermont, Business or Commerce BSN, Hartwick College, Nursing Dr. Schriefer's research focuses on healthcare quality improvement (QI) in pediatric settings, including reducing surgical complications via collaborative partnerships, simulation-based team training for perinatal care, and addressing racial/ethnic disparities in inpatient safety outcomes. She has led initiatives on asthma care, central line infection prevention, and gastrostomy tube safety protocols. Her recent publications (2024-2021) examine QI strategies for respiratory illness management in NICUs, peer support systems for families of medically complex children, and severity scoring tools for hospitalized asthma patients. These works span topics like behavioral health interventions, venous access scoring, and vaccination rate optimization. Over 30+ scientific awards (2009-2024) URMC Quality Institute Associate Scholar HRSA grant collaborations on epilepsy care and delivery room simulation Dr. Schriefer mentors students in the Strong Children's Research Center and RES 995 QI Research Electives. She has worked with researchers from Vermont Oxford Network, Stanford University, and the EquiCenter in Mendon, NY.
