James Bhandary-Alexander is a Clinical Lecturer in Law and Associate Research Scholar in Law at Yale Law School, serving as Legal Director of the Medical Legal Partnership at the Solomon Center for Health Law & Policy. He holds a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law (2005) and B.A. in History and Afro-American Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (1997). His work focuses on health justice, labor rights, housing, and civil rights advocacy, with a particular emphasis on marginalized communities. Research interests include medical-legal partnerships’ role in addressing systemic inequities, post-incarceration legal needs, and coalition-building for policy advocacy. His articles highlight intersections between legal barriers and health outcomes, emphasizing equity in healthcare access and criminal justice reform. Notable awards include the 2016 Micah Award and 2019 Unsung Hero Award. His professional experience includes legal representation at New Haven Legal Assistance and roles on Connecticut’s Low-Wage Employer Advisory Board and Domestic Workers Task Force. He co-leads advocacy efforts to address labor rights and systemic injustices. Bhandary-Alexander teaches Medical-Legal Partnership courses and actively engages in public discourse through media interviews. His work bridges legal systems, healthcare, and community advocacy to advance health justice initiatives.
