Margaret Ramirez is a Lecturer at the University of New Mexico's School of Architecture and Planning. Her research focuses on urban planning, particularly improving street safety for pedestrians and cyclists, enhancing affordable housing in Albuquerque, and addressing housing challenges for formerly incarcerated individuals. She has contributed to transportation master plans, housing needs assessments, and safety action plans across New Mexico and Colorado.
- Education: Graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
Her teaching includes courses like 'Introduction to Environmental Planning' and 'Analytical Methods' (co-instructor). Ramirez is actively involved in initiatives such as the UrbanPlan program through the Urban Land Institute of New Mexico, the Bernalillo County Transportation Action Team, and the Homewise Livability Series. She also serves on the Greater Albuquerque Recreational Trails committee as a mayor-appointee and participates in advocacy groups like StrongTowns ABQ.
Awards: 2025 Livable Albuquerque Fellow.
Additional Roles: Co-leads the UrbanLand Institute's UrbanPlan initiative, contributes to criminal justice reentry housing research, and previously worked as a foreign policy analyst and human rights accompanier in Colombia. She is an avid bicycle commuter.
