Associate Professor Chi Phan is a chemical engineering academic at Curtin University's WASM School of Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering. He holds an Associate Professor rank and oversees roles in the Office of the Provost. His research focuses on interfacial phenomena, process simulations, and sustainable applications of agricultural waste. Phan earned his PhD in Chemical Engineering from Newcastle University and a BEng in Environmental Engineering from RMIT University. Research Interests: Dynamic interfacial adsorption of surfactants Microwave-enhanced chemical processes Valorization of cashew nut shell liquor and rice straw Interfacial energy concentration mechanisms Gas hydrate formation under salinity effects Publications Highlight: Over 100 peer-reviewed articles on surfactant dynamics, microwave effects, and catalytic reforming. Recent work includes molecular simulations of water dielectric properties under microwave irradiation and optimization of interfacial modification techniques. Awards: Finalist in WA Innovator of the Year (2012), Early Career Researcher Award (2009), and multiple ARC grants. His research has been supported by neutron beamtime resources at Japan's proton accelerator. Grants & Advising: Supervised 16 graduate students. Secured funding for projects like 'Sustainable treatment of rice straws' and 'Selective solvent extraction for lithium batteries'. Active in developing catalysts for methane reforming and nanomaterial synthesis. Labs/Teams: Leads research groups in process simulation, surfactant physics, and sustainable chemical engineering. Collaborates internationally on microwave-assisted technologies and interfacial science.
