Associate Professor Lucy Boon Gek Tan is an Australian registered Clinical Psychologist affiliated with James Cook University (Singapore campus). She holds an Associate Professor rank and specializes in Clinical Psychology with a focus on adolescent mental health and mindfulness-based interventions. Her current roles include teaching post-graduate clinical psychology courses, clinical supervision, and research collaboration.
Lucy has held previous positions such as Research Fellow at The University of Hong Kong (2012–2014), Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology (2011–2012), and Senior Clinical Psychologist at Royal Children's Hospital (1999–2009). She has extensive experience in clinical practice, spanning 36 years, and is actively involved in bridging research and clinical practice through initiatives like simulating client training for clinical psychologists and implementing skill-based interventions in community services.
Her research interests include evaluating program effectiveness, third-wave therapies (e.g., Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), transdiagnostic processes (rumination, clinical perfectionism), and mindfulness-based interventions. Notable collaborations include the Social Cognition Laboratory and partnerships with organizations like the Psychology Board of Australia and the Office of Health Ombudsman.
Lucy has received several awards, including the Australian Prime Minister Endeavour Overseas Award (2012) and the Best Research Paper from the Centre of Mindfulness Practice and Research (2011). She emphasizes practical applications of her research, such as commercializing interventions and promoting well-being initiatives for adolescents in Singapore.
Her work also involves grant activities, including a 2022–2025 project on community child mental health services and a 2024–2025 adolescent sleep procrastination program.
